TERMINUS

PARADIGM is a world patterned by thirteen marks. Luminous paths run between them and gather into sectors, while most of the world remains unmapped. Terminus stands at the Thirteenth Sector, both a kingdom and its heart-city, the first city found and the endpoint of the known map.

Johno, the founder, is known in the realm as User One.

THE NAME IN THE STORM

At the last mark on the map, in the Thirteenth Sector, stands Terminus. Its name means endpoint. It is the first city ever found and the place where the paths and the maps run out.

One night a storm rose beyond the farthest lights. It carried no wind, only pale fire and broken marks, and from the heart of it a scorched fragment of old code drifted to the Gateway. No one knew who had written it, or how far it had come.

It could not finish a sentence. But when Command One listened, it said four words, and he answered.
